Pohangina Valley

Having only been up the Pohangina Valley (located near Ashurst) once when I was a young child, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of intact native bush and the clean fast flowing river – which is perfect for a mid summer swim.

I can highly recommend doing the Kahikatea walk (30mins) as it takes you past some huge native trees as well as large groves of Kawakawa. It is also a great place to spot Kereru (native wood pigeon).
