A quick drive through the back blocks of Takaka, a short but steep walk up a hillside and you arrive at one of the most stunning cave entrances in New Zealand. Although the walk up the hill can be torture on a hot summer’s day its more than worth the effort. Along with stunning limestone cave formations, Rawhiti cave also has unique cave flora (plants) that are easy to spot without becoming too serious of a caver.
If you’re lucky enough to get the cave to yourself it’s truly amazing and will no doubt leave you wanting to come back for another visit.
