Mt Arthur

Located in the Kahurangi National Park, Mount Arthur provides a range of tracks and habitats to explore. The track up to Mt Arthur hut is an easy 1 1/2hr walk even suitable for people with prams. The track takes you up through beech forest to a spectacular grove of Mountain Nei Nei which gradually thins out until you reach Mt Arthur hut.

Track before the hut

For a bit more of an alpine adventure you can follow the track up pass the the hut to the ridge which takes you up to the summit of Mt Arthur. Once you’re at the top of the ridge the area changes into a rocky limestone environment making the walk totally worthwhile. The track to the summit is fairly well worn and safe however I can imagine it getting quite dangerous if fog starts to roll in.

Make sure you take warm clothes, sunblock and plenty of water as the track from the hut is very exposed and conditions can change extremely quickly.
