Haulashore Island

Everyone in Nelson knows Haulashore Island, however its only visited by a few people. Located a couple of hundred metres from Rocks Road or a 5min boat ride from the Nelson marina its totally worth a visit. Up until 1905 Haulashore Island wasn’t actually an island. Due to the dangers of getting into the harbour past Fifeshire Rock a deeper all tide channel was made – making Haulashore Island.

Not only does Haulashore Island have awesome views of Tahuna and the Port Hills, its home to a rare (possibly endemic) Kowhai variety and a few cool native animals (skinks, geckos, penguins).
