Through Absolute Wilderness (www.absolutewilderness.co.nz) I found myself driving around South Marlborough / North Canterbury chasing the worlds best adventure racers for Godzone 2014. Here’s a collection of the photos to show what the race was like.
Kaikoura home to seals, whales and crayfish
Godzone HQ Kaikoura – the start and end point for the race.
Team Seagate – Map reading and navigation are key skills in any adventure race
Sea kayaks lined up at the start line
A mad dash for the kayaks at the start of the race.
Smashed in the surf – not a great start for one unlucky pair
Mountain biking in the Puhi Puhi Valley on the first day.
Heading off just on dark, the faster teams always had quick transitions
Each transition requires careful logistics – a task that becomes challenging on multi day races.
Team Seagate finishing the trek stage.
Pushing through the Molesworth in the late afternoon
Team Seagate coming over a hill – stunning views during the day but very cold at night!
Hitting the rapids on the Hurunui
The lower reaches of the Hurunui River
Sorting packs at a TA
The final mountain biking stage
Departing on the final navigation stage hours ahead of the nearest team.
